Interns/Volunteers

Unpaid Internships:

Unpaid internships are offered year round. Interns must be at least 17 years of age and must be willing to work at least 15 hours a week and for a period of at least 10 weeks. Flexible hours are available.

  1. Animal Husbandry: Feeding animals, changing waters, cleaning enclosures.
  2. Veterinarian: Working with curator and keepers to assure proper husbandry and care procedures are being followed. Assist in diagnosing health problems.
  3. Research: Research potential grant opportunities. Writing grant proposals. Researching global weather conditions and habitat needs for specific animals.

A formal interview will be required of all applicants.

Volunteers:

Volunteers are needed daily at the zoo. Flexibility is important for our volunteers, so GLZS-Zoo volunteers work as many or as few hours as they feel comfortable with. Flexible hours while the zoo is open to the public.

Assignments may include:

  • Greeting guests at the door
  • Giving tours of the zoo
  • Educating visitors on individual species' natural history.
